Claudia-Sacchetti
PhD Student

I am a PhD student in Biodiversity, Genetics & Evolution at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon, developing a work entitled “The Pliocene marine molluscs of the Azores (Central Atlantic): systematics, palaeoecology and palaeobiogeography”. I have a master degree in Marine Ecobiology and a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science both from La Sapienza - University of Rome. During my career I studied the fish communities that inhabit seagrass meadows of Posidonia oceanica and Cymodocea nodosa. I gained experience in the identification of the most common fish species in the Mediterranean Sea, and I had experience in fieldwork with visual census methods. With my PhD research I will investigate the palaeoecology and palaeobiogeography of the Pliocene marine molluscs from the geographical region of the Macaronesia. I already learned how to manage and study a museum collection. I participated in many workshops and summer schools to enhance and enrich my knowledge of ecological and ecosystem restoration, of ecological processes in marine biogeography and gain an understanding of the geological process needed to create an oceanic island.
